Exterior area of the castle of Villavellid

It was another of the fortresses that marked the border line of the kingdoms of Castile and León, confronted for centuries in territorial disputes.

Its construction must have begun during the fifteenth century, ordered by Don Diego de Almanza, councillor of Toro, and at his death the villa "with its stronghold" is part of the estate bequeathed to his daughter Constanza, married to Juan Enríquez de Guzmán. His son Francisco, first Marquis of Alcañices, forms an estate in 1522 with several villas including Villavellid.

Built according to the parameters of the Valladolid School, characterized, among other aspects, by the constructive respect of the proportions between the elements that make it up, it was built on thick stonework walls that hide masonry frames; its plan is square and presents three cylindrical cubes in each of its three angles, the fourth occupying the keep. It has a square floor plan and stood on two floors, which are currently collapsed.
