Vestiges from the Castle of Mota del Marqués
Vestiges from the Castle of Mota del Marqués
On the crest that dominates the hamlet and that gives it its name, are the remains of the medieval fortress that in the thirteenth century belonged to the Teutonic Order. It was part of the defensive line of the Torozos Mountains, territory disputed for centuries by Castilians and Leonese.
Its current deterioration does not prevent us from distinguishing the remains of a dome, some of the bay windows and the base of the cubes that were part of the wall that surrounded the castle. They are the vestiges of one of the most unique keeps in Castilla y León, since it is the only one with a circular floor plan.
